The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers has reached its business end and it will be hosts UAE who will lock horns against Nigeria in the 28th match of the competition. While UAE has managed a couple of victories in the tournament so far among 4 matches, Nigeria is yet to win a match in 3 attempts. The hosts entered the tournament with high expectations but some off-field issues and a suspension has affected them a great deal.
After an unexpected defeat against Jersey on Tuesday, UAE will be aiming to get back to winning ways against Nigeria. UAE is by far the more superior team but Nigeria has some good players and has the ability to upstage some of the teams. Despite two victories, both hosts UAE and Nigeria will play for pride as they don’t stand a chance of going through to the T20 World Cup next year.
Date- 24th October 2019
Venue- Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1, Abu Dhabi
UAE is facing a plethora of problems especially due to the suspension of Ashfaq Ahmed who is a very important player for them. He has been suspended by the ICC while Ghulam Shabber has made himself unavailable for the rest of the tournament. Rohan Mustafa has been the best player for them with both bat and ball. A victory won’t turn UAE’s fortune but they will definitely like to finish well in the tournament.
Predicted Playing XI
Chirag Suri, Rohan Mustafa, Rameez Shahzad, Mohammad Usman, Darius D’Silva, Waheed Ahmed, Mohammad Boota (WK), Sultan Ahmed, Ahmed Raza (C), Junaid Siddiqui, Zahoor Khan.
Nigeria has been pretty ordinary in the tournament so far and not a single player has managed to put up a good performance which has resulted in them losing all the 3 matches so far. Despite scoring just 35 runs with the bat in the tournament so far, Daniel Ajekun is a good option in the dream team. No injury issues have been reported yet.
Predicted Playing XI
Daniel Ajekun, Adeleke Oyede, Sulaimon Runsewe, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Ademola Onikoyi (C&WK), Isaac Okpe, Joseph Adedeji, Daniel Gim, Sylvester Okpe, Chima Akachukwu, Abiodun Abioye
UAE has won two and lost the other two matches in the tournament while Nigeria is yet to open their account in 3 attempts. Rohan Mustafa has been the best player for UAE so far and has managed to score 101 runs and bag 7 wickets so far.
He is a must in the dream XI team. For Nigeria, it will be a relatively difficult option to pick a certain player as none has performed up to the mark in the tournament so far.
The United Arab Emirates vs Nigeria Dream 11 Team Combination
Wicket-keepers- Ademola Onikoyi
Batsmen- Joseph Adedji, Chirag Suri, Mohammad Usman, Daniel Ajeku
All-rounders- Rohan Mustafa, Waheed Ahmed, Adeleke Oyede
Bowlers- Ahmed Raza, Zahoor Khan, Junaid Siddiqui
Rohan Mustafa- There is no doubt about the fact that Rohan Mustafa should be one of the captain options. He can provide points as he is an all-rounder and has been the most consistent performer for UAE in the tournament. He has scored 101 runs and has bagged 7 wickets so far. In his T20I career, he has scored 586 runs and has bagged 34 wickets in 33 matches.
Chirag Suri- He has played only T20I’s for UAE but has already made a reputation for himself. He has managed to score 100 runs in the tournament so far with the highest score of an unbeaten 44 against Hong Kong. He might be a risky pick but could work if he starts scoring.
