Three-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians will come head to head against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier for the Indian Premier League finals.
Talking about the journey, Mumbai Indians started their 2019 campaign with multiple losses but the way they bounced back and surprised everyone. At present, with 9 wins in 14 matches, MI are sitting at the peak of the points table pushing down Chennai Super Kings who dominated the first spot since the starting of the tournament.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings, they kept crushing their foes and made their path to the playoffs easily. Chennai would be a bit worried as they have lost both of their encounters against Mumbai Indians this season and they would be planning to take their revenge. Dhoni will enjoy the home side advantage as the match is scheduled to be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Chennai even lost their previous game against KXIP and it’s not a good sign if you are going to play a qualifier just after a defeat. Currently, CSK is in second position with 9 wins in 14 games.
MA Chidambaram is mostly known for batting-friendly pitch, but the batsmen must be careful of spinners as they get a decent turn here.
MI vs CSK stats:
Watson holds a poor record against Mumbai Indians. He has scored 50 runs once in 22 games. Malinga has booked him twice this season.
Raina has always delivered for CSK. He registers seven 50’s against MI, but could only manage one 50 in the encounter against MI.
Rohit has always played well against CSK and holds three 50+ runs against last five matches against CSK.
Dhoni has been booked by Malinga several times and has scored 124 runs off 90 balls bowled by Malinga at an average of 137.77.
Pollard has an upper hand against Bravo by scoring 214 runs off 122 balls at a strike rate of 175.41. But Bravo has been a nightmare for MI as he has picked 30 wickets in 18 games.
Probable playing 11:
Chennai Super Kings:
Watson, du Plessis, Raina, Rayudu, Dhoni(C&WK), Harbhajan, Shorey/Karn, Bravo, Jadeja, Tahir, Chahar
Q de Kock(WK), Rohit (C), Pollard, Chahar, Bumrah, Malinga, McClenaghan, Ishan/A Roy, Suryakumar, Hardik, Krunal
Dhoni is the best option as a wicketkeeper. He is expected to make some valuable contribution. Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis makes the opening pair look sturdy. These two players are capable of scoring high runs for CSK. Rohit Sharma and K Pollard have a good record against CSK and they would again deliver for their team. H Pandya is in form, so don’t forget to bet on him. Bravo has picked 30 wickets against MI, so knows the weakness. Don’t miss him out. R Jadeja is capable of doing wonders with both bat as well as with the ball.
Coming to bowlers, as spinners will have an advantage here, so I Tahir is the best option. He is one of the leading wicket-takers for CSK. Malinga and Bumrah would pick wickets with their experience. These two are worth betting on.
